Flatbed Towing

FLATBED TOWING LAS VEGAS

Flatbed towing, also called roll back towing, is the ideal way to tow a vehicle.

Not only is it safer for all parties involved, it can also extend the life of your vehicle’s tires since they are not rotating on the road.

Unless you work in the industry, you may not know the ins and outs of this form of towing. Here are s few tips to follow when using flatbed towing service.

Towing Service Las Vegas offers a wide variety of auto road services, so no matter what you need, we are here to help.

Having an Emergency?

We're available 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.

Room to Operate

To secure a vehicle onto a flatbed tow truck, the truck operator must pull a couple of car lengths ahead of it. This will allow for enough clearance for proper alignment of the vehicle being loaded onto the bed. It also provides enough room to lower the tow bed so that it can be used as a loading ramp for the vehicle.

Hooking Up Properly

There are usually two slots on the bumper of most models of vehicles, and these are located at the front and bottom. They are designed by the manufacturer specifically for towing. Using the two hooks at the end of the winch, the tow truck operator will connect hooks to the car or truck in those slots.

Depending on the make of the vehicle, these slots will vary. If you have a Ford or Chevy vehicle, there is a hole on each side of the frame for winch hooks. Almost all Japanese cars have their tie-down slots under the front bumper.

For European brands, such as Mercedes and Audi, plugs must be removed from a sticky undercoating to access the slots. On a BMW, there is a tow hook that is provided in a tool kit that can be found in the trunk of the vehicle.

Stay Neutral
The vehicle that is being towed should have the transmission set in neutral. This will allow the wheels to move freely once the winch is being operated to pull the vehicle onto the flatbed. Not doing so will make the operation difficult and will also damage the towed vehicle’s tires and possibly its transmission.

Extra security
Once the vehicle is loaded onto the flatbed and is level, you will need to put the transmission in “park” and also set the emergency brake on for added security. Doing so will ensure that the vehicle is as secure as it can possibly be.

Close to the Cab
After the vehicle has been secured, make sure that the flatbed is positioned as close to the cab of the tow truck as it can be. To do this, engage the lever that will hydraulically move the bed into position near the tow truck cab. It is not safe to tow a vehicle on a flatbed that is sticking out from the cab of a tow truck.

Last Hook-ups
You can never be too careful when flatbed towing a vehicle in Las Vegas. It is always better to venture on the side of safety. Go the extra mile by tying down or hooking down each of the vehicle’s wheels before taking off for the trip.
