We know that the main unit needs to be attached to the truck by a hitch pin. Then you can slide the ramp under the bike. Making sure the bike is in neutral and the front wheel is and the bike is fully secured we then put it into gear.

Tips to towing your own bike trailer.

Bike trailer towing is a regular thing to a bike owner. The reasons are not at all breakdowns but a bike is a great thing to take on vacation or to a trade show or bikers meetup or event. So, learning from the professionals how to tow your own motorcycle is essential.


We gave a few tips earlier about towing the actual bike–our job–but–the bike trailer you may be using to bring yourself–your luggage and whatever else. Point is–it’s gotta be done right.

Packing the trailer.

It’s important to be mindful of where you pack luggage in the trailer. If it’s too close to the front you risk tilting and jackknife.


Too close to the back and the trailer lifts up on the back of the motorcycle. The largest items should be packed on the Axle of your bike. Don’t pack too high or you risk a diving trailer.

The law loves chains.

Each state varies in their take on using anchoring chains but most states want you to use them. Remember your light connections and putting the bike back in gear when it’s done.

Practice makes perfect and good sense.

Once you have the trailer hooked up to the bike–you need to take the bike and the trailer somewhere safe for a test drive and not the highway or a busy street either.


This is the acid test. It’s best that something happens before you go out there on your long haul. It’s better for your bike and your safety as well.
